CHILDREN’S SERVICE COUNCIL OF ST. LUCIE COUNTY

Description

WHAT WE DO

A Children’s Services Council (CSC) is a countywide special-purpose government, created by ordinance – and approved by local voters – to fund programs and services that improve the lives of children and their families.

Florida remains the only state in the nation with laws that allow local county leaders and the residents of those counties to create a special government entity that’s sole purpose is to invest in the well-being of children and families.

To date, nine Florida counties have created CSCs that invest property tax dollars in the well-being of their community’s children and families. While the services offered and age groups served vary depending on each community’s needs, the primary focus of all CSCs is to invest in prevention and early intervention programs that produce measurable results.

OUR INITIATIVES

  1. Find resources that help strengthen parent-child bonding and ensure that our youngest and most valuable residents have every opportunity for a healthy start.

  2. Find resources that engage youth in positive activities to help motivate them to stay on a continued path of success. These activities keep them safe and off the streets, but also help them grow academically while expanding their life skills.

  3. Find resources that support children’s success in school by offering students access to healthcare, reading mentors for struggling students and family supports to ensure school attendance.

  4. Find resources to help families overcome obstacles, strengthen parenting skills and build strong communication – all vital to the success of children and their families.

  5. Find helpful resources that educate youth and their parents on the realities of drug and alcohol use.
